Opportunities for Women Artisans

Shalom Ooty works to create meaningful earning opportunities for women while celebrating handmade craft and the cultural heritage of the Nilgiris. We welcome enquiries from women artisans who would like to grow their skills and create carefully made products with us.

Who can apply

• Women interested in embroidery, tailoring, hand stitching, textile work or other traditional crafts.
• Experienced artisans as well as women who are willing to learn.
• Women who value careful workmanship, reliability and respect for traditional designs.
• Applicants who can complete agreed work within the discussed time and quality requirements.
• Women from Ooty, the Nilgiris and nearby communities are especially encouraged to enquire.

Skills we value

Experience in Toda embroidery, hand embroidery, tailoring, finishing, quality checking or product making is helpful. Please tell us what craft you practise, how long you have been doing it and whether you have samples of your work. Formal qualifications are not required for an initial enquiry.

We will review your enquiry and contact you if there is a suitable opportunity to discuss. Sending an enquiry does not guarantee work. Product requirements, quantities, timelines, payment and working arrangements will be explained and agreed before any assignment begins.
